Why is there sales tax on my Cora bill?

Starting October 21, 2026, Every collects sales tax on subscriptions in US states where we're required to. If sales tax appears at your renewal, it's because your billing address is in one of those states. This works the same whether you're billed monthly or annually; the tax shows up at your next renewal either way.

Did my subscription price change?

No. Your subscription price is exactly the same. Sales tax is added as a separate line item on top, and we pass it through to your state. Every doesn't keep any of it.

Why is this happening now?

Most US states legally require companies to collect sales tax on digital products and software subscriptions once their sales in that state pass a certain threshold. Every has grown past those thresholds in some states, so we're now legally required to collect there.

Which states does this apply to?

New York and Maryland. In New York this applies to the Cora, Monologue, Sparkle and Spiral apps; the Every subscription isn't taxed there. The rate varies by state and by product, so the exact amount for your subscription shows as its own line on your invoice.

How is the amount calculated?

It's based on the billing address on your account and your state and local tax rates. You'll see the exact amount as its own line item on each invoice and receipt.

Will I be charged tax on past payments?

No. Tax applies only to bills issued on or after October 21, 2026. Nothing is collected retroactively.

Do the prices shown on our site include sales tax?

No. Listed prices exclude sales tax. If tax applies to you, it's added at billing based on your address.

I'm outside the US. Does this affect me?

Not right now. We're currently collecting US sales tax only.

My organization is tax-exempt. What do I do?

Send your exemption certificate to [email protected] and we'll mark your account exempt. If you were already charged tax after your exemption applies, we'll return that tax as a credit on your account, applied to your next bill.

My billing address is wrong or outdated

Go to cora.computer/subscriptions, update your billing information, edit the address and save. If Cora comes with your Every subscription, update it at every.to/account instead: open the Billing tab, click Manage billing, then Update information. Tax is calculated from that address, so keeping it current makes sure you're charged correctly (or not at all, if your state doesn't tax subscriptions).

I'm on an annual plan. When will I see this?

At your next renewal. Nothing changes mid-cycle.
